The previous holder was Christian Panucci, who was 35 years and two months old when he was on target against Romania on June 13, 2008.

Remarkably, tonight was Quagliarella’s first Italy start since a 1-1 friendly away to Switzerland on June 5, 2010, when he was also on the scoresheet.

Quagliarella had not started a competitive international since the 3-2 victory over Cyprus on October 14, 2009.

Curiously, that 2010 World Cup qualifier also took place at the Stadio Tardini in Parma.
