“It’s an important game for us and a very difficult one, so we must be super concentrated, make very few mistakes and hope for a bit of luck,” Quagliarella told Sky Sport Italia.

“I did think Pirlo would become a coach, but maybe not quite so quickly! Andrea is a super-intelligent lad, he was as a player and is as a coach too. I wish him all the best for a wonderful coaching career, just not today…”

Quagliarella celebrates his 38th birthday tomorrow, but he’s in no mood to party.

“Tomorrow I turn 38, but let’s say I’ve learned not to celebrate my birthday too much, as each one is edging me closer to the end of my career. I hope my teammates can give me a wonderful gift with a victory today, even if it’s tough.”
