The World Cup 2010 veteran was called back by Coach Antonio Conte in September of last year, but failed to garner a call-up for the current international break.

Even so, his strong start to the season with Torino allows him an optimistic approach.

“I believe I can cut out a space for myself, I feel the Azzurri colours very strongly,” he said, as reported today by La Gazzetta dello Sport.”

However the 32-year-old was more cautious when discussing his club.

“Let's all take it slow. [Coach Giampiero] Ventura is right, let's take a photo of the standings, keep that at the back of our minds and get back to work.

“Against Fiorentina it was a beautiful game, it was nice to win with a comeback, but we can't afford to keep falling back in terms of the score.”
