The Torino striker won his last cap for the Azzurri in the draw with Romania in November 2010, but has been included in Antonio Conte’s squad for the matches against Azerbaijan and Norway.

Fabio Quagliarella says “it’s an honour” to be back in the Italy squad, for the first time in almost five years.

The Torino striker won his last cap for the Azzurri in the draw with Romania in November 2010, but has been included in Antonio Conte’s squad for the matches against Azerbaijan and Norway.

“It’s an honour, I’m enthusiastic,” Quagliarella told journalists in a Press conference at Coverciano.

“Conte knows me, he’s coached me already and I’ve benefited from that. I could have been back here in the national team last year, but then injuries meant I couldn’t be here.

“There’s always competition in the national team. I’m amongst experienced players. If I’m needed I’m here.

“There’s a mix of everything here, Pelle and Zaza are physically strong, and the wide players can play in any role.

“It’s a technical and creative attack.”

Quagliarella spoke to the media alongside Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne, and had words of praise for the playmaker.

“I am and always will be a Napoli fan. I have Insigne as a roomate. I told him to behave.

“Insigne is laughing and joking and handling things well at the moment.

“He can do anything well, but to compare him with [Diego] Maradona is a problem, it puts unfair pressure on him.

“He just has to express himself as Insigne and he’ll become a symbol of Napoli.”
