Serie A strugglers Sampdoria could be in the process of finding a new owner after a Swiss intermediary confirmed Khalid Faleh al Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family, is ‘ready to buy’ the club.

According to news agency ANSA, there is a confirmation email from negotiators working on the takeover.

Also involved in the potential investment are film producer Francesco Di Silvio and ex-player Ivano Bonetti.

Although a member of the Qatari royal family, Khalid Faleh al Thani is not believed to be from the same branch that runs Paris Saint-Germain.

It is Di Silvio who has provided a letter to the news agency confirming the “strong intent to buy Sampdoria, an interest that comes from the many descriptions from Francesco Di Silvio, Imad and Medhi.

“They made me discover a wonderful city like Genoa, the marvellous Sampdoria jersey and told me about the glorious history of the club.

“I fell in love with the city and Sampdoria, so decided to buy the club. We have sent a proposal to the trustee Dr Vidal and are hoping to reach closing as soon as possible.”

Sampdoria have been struggling financially since owner and President Massimo Ferrero handed over the reins following his arrest for fraudulent bankruptcy in December 2021.

The Blucerchiati won the Serie A title in 1990-91 and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989-90, but have largely been focused on narrowly avoiding relegation in recent years.

  1. The encroachment of Americans and Arabs into our football keeps on getting worse.

How can this be allowed to happen.

Starts with football and spreads elsewhwre.

Would really love to know the end game of these Americans and Arabs.
