Christian Pulisic is ‘really excited to be part’ of Milan after a sensational Serie A debut, reuniting with his former Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud. ‘It felt like the perfect step for my career.’

The forward could not have asked for a better debut in the 2-0 victory away to Bologna, as his cross-field pass was knocked back by Tijjani Reijnders for Giroud to score, then he smashed in the second goal himself.

“It was a fantastic start, for sure. I’m really excited to be a part of this team,” Pulisic told DAZN.

“The two early goals really helped us, because it was a difficult game after that. For me just a great start personally, nice to get a goal, while a clean sheet and a win are always nice.”

It was a reunion for Pulisic with his former Chelsea teammates Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Did their presence help convince him to make the journey to Italy as well?

“It was just speaking with those guys like Olivier, we had some good experiences together. I played with Fikayo, I played with Ruben and the connection is there, as you saw tonight. It was great to get the assist from Oli again.

“It just felt like the perfect step for my career, I feel really welcome and excited to be part of this club.”

Milan unleashed their new trident attack with Giroud, Pulisic and Rafael Leao this evening.

“I mean, it’s easy to play with good players! Oli always seems to be in the right place to score goals, Rafa of course, we all know what he can do and he’s a very dangerous player. So it’s definitely an exciting group.”

This was the first official match of the season after a tour of the United States, so Pulisic can’t wait to experience the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, also known as San Siro.

“Absolutely. Just the fans tonight at the away stadium was fantastic, so I can’t imagine what it will be like at home. I was able to experience it last season when we played against Milan and it will be nice to have the fans on my side this time.”

The forward was probed on what his personal objective is for his first season at Milan.

“We want to fight to win this championship of course, to compete for all the titles we can. Personally it is to continue creating and scoring goals the way I did tonight and to help this team win titles.”

The USMNT star was asked if he can see any Scudetto favourites yet, as Napoli, Inter, Juventus and Milan all won the opening round.

“I think it’s a bit early to say…”
