They are bottom of the Serie A table and virtually relegated, but earned a 1-0 victory at San Siro thanks to Pietro Iemmello’s goal and hung on even after Cheick Diabate was sent off.
“Up against famous and world-renowned players, today a little Benevento on paper proved you can be great with heart and the desire to play football,” the goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.
President Oreste Vigorito was in the stands this evening and was spotted weeping with joy at his team’s first ever Serie A away victory.
“We wanted to give the President this historic moment and it’s wonderful that he was here to see it,” continued Puggioni.
“The football we’ve played recently has not been suited to a club at the foot of the table. I don’t know if we could’ve done things differently, but the important thing is that we brought pride back to this club jersey.”
