Southampton manager Claude Puel said it was “hard to accept” defeat to Inter after creating so many chances at San Siro.
The Saints had more possession and forced two Yuto Nagatomo goal-line clearances, but only Antonio Candreva’s volley found the net.
“I think we saw a very good game from my team, with quality, with a good physical level and with fresh players,” said Puel.

“I think we saw a very good game from my team, with quality, with a good physical level and with fresh players,” said Puel.
“We dominated all the game and missed many chances. It was just one situation against us. It is very hard to lose this game.
“I enjoyed the work of my players, because they played a fantastic first half, with quality and control of the game and many chances, without getting the goal.
“It is hard to accept the result of this game, with all the good things we did on the pitch. But it's football and it's important to learn to be clinical.”
