Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al Khelaifi warns they want to conclude the Champions League, even if it means playing abroad, after the Ligue 1 season was terminated.
The French Government announced this afternoon that no sporting events would be allowed in the country until at least September due to the coronavirus pandemic.
That means there’s no chance of finishing the Ligue 1 season, so the Federation will have to decide how to go about assigning the title, European and relegation places.
There’s a more complicated issue, because Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais are still in the Champions League and that might be concluded in August.
“We respect the French government’s decision. In agreement with UEFA, we intend to participate in the final rounds of this season’s Champions’ League at the time and place at which it will be organised,” PSG chief Al Khelaifi told RMC Sport.
“If it is not possible to play in France, we will play our matches abroad with the assurance that we will place our players and all our staff in the best possible health conditions.”
Lyon are midway through their Champions League Round of 16 tie with Juventus, having won the first leg 1-0 on their own turf.
The second leg in Turin was postponed, as Daniele Rugani tested positive for COVID-19 just days before the game.
