It was while in charge of the Rossoneri’s transfer strategy that Leonardo scouted Paqueta and brokered the €35m plus bonuses deal with Flamengo in January.

The director left for a return to PSG this summer and Paqueta has struggled for playing time under Gennaro Gattuso and especially Marco Giampaolo.

It remains to be seen how the situation will change now that Stefano Pioli has been appointed, but Sky Sport Italia claim Leonardo is laying the groundwork for a potential swoop to bring Paqueta to Paris.

The 22-year-old likes to play as a creative midfielder, but has been increasingly used in a deeper role for the Rossoneri.
