Marco Verratti is reportedly going to be out of action for another three weeks after the Paris Saint-Germain and Italy midfielder sustained a muscular injury.

He had been expected to start last night’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, but spent the entire 2-1 defeat on the bench due to a muscular issue.

The 29-year-old had started the 3-1 win over Nantes on November 20, marking his return from a hip injury, while he missed the start of the season with a knee problem.

He sustained this most recent muscular injury during the training session on Tuesday.

According to the latest report from L’Equipe, Verratti has a lesion to the quadricep and will be out of action for circa three weeks.

Verratti has made only eight competitive appearances at club level so far this season, six in Ligue 1 and two in the Champions League, for 601 minutes of football.

He also missed both the recent World Cup qualifiers for Italy against Switzerland and Northern Ireland.
