After months of attempts that were rebuffed right to transfer deadline day, Paris Saint-Germain have finally given up on getting Milan Skriniar from Inter.

The Ligue 1 club was unusually open about their determination to sign the Slovakia international, much to the irritation of the Nerazzurri.

This continued in interviews and press conferences even up to last night with coach Christophe Galtier declaring “as long as the window is open, it is possible.”

However, Inter had been open to a sale earlier in the summer at €70m, a figure that PSG refused to pay at the time.

They did reportedly meet that figure at €65m plus €5m in bonuses over the last couple of days, but it was too late in the day to find a suitable replacement, so Inter turned it down.

The only transfer fee they were prepared to accept this late in the day was €80m and Paris Saint-Germain have now finally admitted defeat.

It is true that his contract only runs to June 2023, but Skriniar has also assured he is ready to sign a new deal.

Meanwhile, Inter have signed another centre-back today, Francesco Acerbi on loan with option to buy from Lazio.
