Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma was criticised on social media after Paris Saint-Germain lost 3-2 at home to Barcelona in the Champions League.

The first leg of the quarter-final saw the Blaugrana open the scoring at Parc des Princes with Raphina after Donnarumma only grazed his fingertips to a cross to get it away from Robert Lewandowski.

PSG turned it around through Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha, but Raphinha scored again to complete a well-worked move before Andreas Christensen was allowed a free header on a corner for 2-3.

Donnarumma stayed on his line for the third goal, having looked shaky and uncertain on a series of set plays and crosses throughout the match.

El Confidencial writer Albert Ortega called it “one of the worst performances from a goalkeeper that I have ever seen in the Champions League. His match was a disaster. Anti-competitive.”

Others called it a “hall of shame” outing from the Italy international, while noting Donnarumma’s generally terrible record in the Champions League.

He had stated one of the reasons why he left Milan as a free agent for PSG was to win the Champions League, but seems no closer to achieving that aim.

It wasn’t just on crosses that he struggled, as it was also noted his poor passing out from the back started the Barcelona move to score for 2-2.

PSG would’ve conceded another on a Donnarumma error if not for the Nuno Mendes goal-line clearance in the first half, though he did make a couple of tricky saves too.

The only saving grace for Donnarumma was the criticism PSG fans also aimed at defender Beraldo, who had an equally dismal performance.

  1. The sooner he is dropped by Italy the better. If not expect every team that they face at the Euros to play the same way. He was at fault for all 3 goals.

  2. Vicario needs to be the starter. Is better with his feet and better all around. I am not a Milan fan I am an Italian fan.

  3. @BoB and Tony – Vicario has also been criticised for set play errors and corner clearances in the EPL. He also looked a bit shaky during moments of Ecuador’s high press. Donnarumma has more big game experience and obviously more tournament experience. Not defending him as I agree that Vicario is better at distribution, but anyone can have a bad game. Mbappe wasn’t exactly a goal scoring machine for this game, was he…? Goalies are the first to be blamed when they don’t help the team win.
