Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma has received plaudits for his performance during Paris Saint-Germain’s 0-0 draw with Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday night, with particular praise coming from PSG coach Luis Enrique.

Friday evening’s goalless draw extended PSG’s lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table to 12 points, although second-place Brest still have to play Le Havre this weekend.

PSG’s clean sheet against Monaco was Donnarumma’s 14th in all competitions this season, from a total of 30 appearances. He has kept an impressive 10 clean sheets from 21 outings in the French top flight.

During his post-match press conference, coach Enrique labelled Donnarumma as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while in Saturday’s match reports, French outlet Footmercato posed the question: “Where would PSG be without Donnarumma?”

“He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Enrique said of the former Milan stopper on Friday evening, reported via TMW.

“He works very well and has adapted to our ideology. He is very intelligent, he gives us a lot of confidence because it is so difficult to score against him.

Analysing his own performance after the Monaco game, Donnarumma said: “I had a good match. It’s not easy here and we wanted to win, but Monaco are a great team. We played well despite everything.

“The opponents had quality, there were difficulties but the team showed a good attitude and now we are ready for Real Sociedad.”

Meanwhile, in the French press, Footmercato went one-up from Enrique’s praise, suggesting that Donnarumma could in fact be the best goalkeeper in the world outright.

They also claimed that Donnarumma “kept his teammates afloat,” during the Monaco trip, and that his footwork was “impeccable”.
