Former Roma hero Roberto Pruzzo has praised captain Edin Dzeko as a ‘complete player’, as the Bosnian closes in on his goalscoring record.

The Bosnia international has scored 111 goals for Roma and have only Pruzzo (138) and Francesco Totti (307) above him on the all-time top goalscorers list.

Pruzzo, who helped Roma win the Scudetto in 1982-83, leads the 34-year-old by 27 goals and has praised the current captain.

“He’s a reference point for his teammates,” Pruzzo told Il Corriere dello Sport. “It’s clear that playing with someone like him makes you prepare the team in a certain way.

“Every now and then he takes it easy, but he’s a complete striker, one who can make the difference. In addition to scoring goals, he is also capable of doing other things.

“He remains a great centre-forward. He’s atypical, different, for example, from [Duvan] Zapata, who is a traditional striker who brings the team up.

“Dzeko is a complete player.”

Pruzzo believes the formation with Pedro Rodriguez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan behind Dzeko ‘works great’ for the Giallorossi.

“It works great. The club and the technician couldn’t do better,” he said. “If Dzeko had two classic wings that go to the line and put crosses in the middle, he would have less fun.”
