Ivan Provedel became only the second goalkeeper in Champions League history to score, apart from a penalty, as he snatched Lazio’s last-gasp draw against Atletico Madrid.

The shot-stopper rushed forward when they were trailing 1-0 and received a corner deep into stoppages at the Stadio Olimpico.

He made the difference, as a Luis Alberto cross came in and Provedel ghosted through defenders for the glancing header from six yards to beat his colleague Jan Oblak.

Before Provedel, the only goalkeepers to score in the Champions League were Vincent Enyeama in September 2010 and Sinan Bolat in December 2009.

An Italian goalkeeper had also scored in a different UEFA competition, specifically Marco Amelia in Partizan Belgrade 1-1 Livorno in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup.

It is, however, nothing new for Provedel, because he had also found the net in Serie B when securing a 2-2 draw between Ascoli and Juve Stabia in February 2020.
