Protests are continuing against Milan’s plans to possibly build their new stadium in the La Maura area of the city.

Il Giornale details how the entire majority in Municipio 8 of Milano is against the project, wanting to avoid such a large-scale construction in the neighbourhood.

Inhabitants and neighbourhood committees including WWF Lombardia and Italia Nostra Milano have organised a protest at 3pm on Sunday March 19 at the La Maura hippodrome, creating the slogan: “’Let’s embrace La Maura, no to new cement, roads and pollution in the middle of the green area of the Parco Ovest Milano.”

Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala is waiting to hear from Rossoneri owner Gerry Cardinale in the coming weeks, wanting to understand if the plan is to continue with the La Maura idea or not.

Milan originally planned to build a new stadium with inter-city rivals Inter, with both clubs keen to leave the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in San Siro, but they’ve broken off in recent weeks and now look set to work on their new homes individually.
