Milan host Salernitana at 14.00 UK time with Pietro Pellegri likely to start his first competitive game with the Serie A giants.

The Rossoneri meet Serie A strugglers Salernitana in Milan. They are without the injured Simon Kjaer, who underwent knee surgery on Friday and will remain out of action for six months.

Stefano Pioli could rotate at the back with Fodé Ballo-Touré starting in place of Theo Hernandez and Matteo Gabbia for Alessio Romagnoli. However, the captain and the French defender remain the favourite to start.

Pietro Pellegri is likely to get the nod in his first Serie A game with the Rossoneri. Pioli has little options in attack with Ante Rebic, Olivier Giroud and Samu Castillejo injured.

The Serie A giants have a crucial Champions League game against Liverpool next week, so Zlatan Ibrahimovic will rest like Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer in the middle of the park.

Salernitana sit rock bottom in the standings, but Franck Ribery returns from an injury and could start in attack with

Probable line-ups

Milan (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Bakayoko, Kessié; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Pellegri.

Salernitana (4-3-3): Belec; Bogdan, Gyomber, Veseli, Zortea; L. Coulibaly, Di Tacchio, Capezzi; Bonazzoli, Simy, Ribery

  1. I’m actually excited to see Pellegri start. As great as Ibra is I feel like sometimes the opposition base their defensive gameplay around him. Sassuolo playing a high line knowing they would catch up to him, for example. Whereas with PP I don’t suppose they would have a great deal of tactical knowledge about him so the element of surprise/unknown is there. Big responsibility is on Pellegri to take this game and show he deserves to be a starter. Messias did it. Saelamaekers did it. Tonali has done it. Tomori did it.
