Italy are expected to debut a 3-4-2-1 formation against Venezuela with Federico Chiesa and Davide Frattesi supporting Mateo Retegui, with chances for Andrea Cambiaso and Destiny Udogie.

It kicks off at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday at 21.00 GMT.

Coach Luciano Spalletti confirmed he would adopt either a 3-4-2-1 or the 3-2-4-1 system, depending on the positioning of the wingers.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the plan is to use Chiesa and Frattesi in roaming roles behind lone centre-forward Retegui.

They can then push the wingers forward or deeper, depending on the situation at that time, making the most of versatile figures like Tottenham’s Udogie or Inter left-winger Federico Dimarco.

There could be a debut at senior Italy level for Juventus wide man Cambiaso on the right flank.

In that case, Giovanni Di Lorenzo could be used in the back three with Alessandro Buongiorno and Alessandro Bastoni, as the Napoli captain already played there several times this season under Walter Mazzarri.

Jorginho of Arsenal and Inter’s Nicolò Barella are the favourites for the midfield spots.

Italy (3-4-2-1 probable): Donnarumma; Darmian (Di Lorenzo), Buongiorno, Scalvini (Bastoni); Cambiaso, Jorginho, Barella, Udogie; Frattesi, Chiesa; Retegui
