Nicolò Barella is the favourite to start over Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the Inter midfielder only joined the group on Wednesday.

The same goes for Stefano Sensi and Alessandro Bastoni, whilst Sassuolo star Manuel Locatelli seems set to start in Chelsea playmaker Jorginho’s absence.

Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini are expected to start in the heart of the defence, with Paris Saint-Germain full-back Alessandro Florenzi at right and Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri at left.

Lazio striker Immobile is tipped to start, fighting Andrea Belotti for the central position in attack.

Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo and Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne are expected to complete the attacking trident.

Northern Ireland haven’t qualified for the World Cup since 1986 and CT Ian Baraclough must cope without goalkeeper Nathan Gartside, defender Jamal Lewis and attackers Conor Washington and Liam Boyce.

Italy (probable): Donnarumma; Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson; Barella, Locatelli, Verratti; Berardi, Immobile, Insigne

Norther Ireland (probable): Peacock-Farrell; McNair, J. Evans, Cathcart; Dallas, Davis, Saville, C. Evans, Kennedy; Magennis, Lafferty
