There are four candidates to replace Carlo Tavecchio, who resigned after Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

They are Damiano Tommasi, Cosimo Sibilia, Gabriele Gravina and Lazio chief Lotito.

“No one candidate has enough votes to win,” Preziosi told La Repubblica ahead of the January 29 election.

“Serie A gave its support for Lotito and if the Amateur League move their vote over to Lotito, as they have 34 per cent of the vote, then Lotito will win.

“It’s only right that the motor of Italian football – Serie A – should be at the command rather than one of the wagons.

“I am sure that if Lotito were to be President, he wouldn’t do anything stupid, but rather look after the interests of our movement.

“However it goes, I am convinced Lotito will have an important role in the FIGC of the future.”

Some accused Lotito of being the ‘puppet master’ behind Tavecchio, as he worked very closely with the former Federation President.
