Genoa President Enrico Preziosi says it would be ‘a mockery’ if the Grifone were barred from playing in Europe should they qualify.

The club is currently appealing a ruling which saw them denied a UEFA licence for next season, meaning that they could not compete in the Europa League.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side moved to within a point of the sixth and final European slot with a 5-1 win over Torino tonight, and the patron believes it would be a farce if they were not allowed to compete.

“The licence? We’ve initiated the procedures to get one, and we’re waiting for an answer,” Preziosi told Rai.

“In the meantime, of course, we have to qualify, but we’ll present our appeal this week.

“I don’t know what will happen, but we’ve had a spectacular season. It would be a mockery if we were to qualify for Europe but were not allowed to play.

“This club is one of the healthiest [financially], there was an error in procedure, but we shouldn’t be bracketed with Parma.”
