“It had to be done,” President Preziosi told the Secolo XIX newspaper.
“This is not a situation I took pleasure in, but it was necessary. I won’t get into it, because I don’t like to talk about my employees and judge their behaviour.
“Marroccu is in charge now and knows the club, so can help us achieve our objective.”
However, Preziosi denied reports that coach Rolando Maran could soon follow Faggiano out the door.
“I won’t change the coach, as I have faith in Maran. It’s up to the players to get results on the field.”
Marroccu had already been Genoa director of sport from December 2019 to August 2020.
