Genoa mark their 121st anniversary today and President Enrico Preziosi assures they are “right behind the top six.”
The Grifone are the oldest club in Italy and were founded on September 7 1893 as Genoa Football and Cricket Club.
“It wasn’t easy, but we believe that we have constructed an ambitious squad,” Preziosi told the Secolo XIX newspaper.
“We want to get back into the top half of the table, as we can be right behind the top five or six.”
The patron also hit out at Sampdoria’s new owner Massimo Ferrero ahead of the Genoa Derby.
“The derby has to be played and not talked. Unlike others I do not act arrogant, as it’s better to have respect for the fans and keep your head down.”
