Genoa President Enrico Preziosi says Gian Piero Gasperini won’t leave and that Leonardo Pavoletti is ‘second only to Gonzalo Higuain’.

The Rossoblu have struggled this season and are currently in 15th place, which has led to some protests from fans.

However, the form of Pavoletti has been a positive and Preziosi has called for an Azzurri call-up for the striker.

“The Coach still has two years on his contract, but more importantly the joy of working in the world of Genoa,” Preziosi told Radio Anch’io lo Sport.

“There will be a chance to confirm his position and I’m not afraid of being denied about the fact that he’ll stay.

“Pavoletti for Italy? It’s so easy to say yes. After Higuain I think he’s the best centre forward in Serie A.

“Is staying up the goal? We’ve picked up seven points in the last few games, with two away matches. We’re calm even though our next matches will be complicated.”

The Grifone owner also commented on the ongoing tensions between some Genoa Ultras and the Gasperini following poor form this season.

“The position taken by Gasperini? It’s a strong position towards people who sometimes influence those who normally go to the stadium just to cheer on the team," he said.

“Gasperini has denounced a difficult situation, we have no collaboration with certain people.

“We’ll participate with all fans on social initiatives, situations that are very distant from this.”
