The pressure is continuing to mount on Stefano Pioli after Milan suffered elimination from the Coppa Italia, having lost to Atalanta in their quarter-final duel.

The San Siro crowd loudly booed the coach and his players following the full-time whistle of their cup clash with la Dea on Wednesday evening, with the fans keen to show their unhappiness after another disappointing outing.

Milan have already been eliminated from the Champions League and sit nine points behind league leaders Inter at the halfway point of the season, having little to smile about in recent months.

As highlighted by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan are now looking increasingly likely to make a change from Pioli in the summer, having seemingly failed on all fronts. The fans have all but lost faith in the coach, who is often accused of being tactically outmuscled.

Rossoneri CEO Giorgio Furlani spoke to Sky Sports Italia about the team’s poor results this season, clearly sending a message to Pioli in the process.

“It’s very disappointing because we wanted to stay in the running in all possible competitions, even in Serie A we believe we can do better.

“This evening there were negative moments which unfortunately penalized us, but not everything is going badly, and we remain focused on the present with clarity and the desire to do well.”
