While Bologna fans protest President Joey Saputo for not being present enough at the Serie A club, he puts €40m into the club coffers to balance the books.

Only last week the Rossoblu supporters put banners around the Stadio Dall’Ara and training ground asking ‘where are you?’ to their Canadian patron.

He gave a response of sorts today during the shareholder’s meeting that ratified a financial year with more heavy losses.

Bologna ran at a loss of €46.7m in the 2021-22 season.

That gap has already been covered by Saputo, who was involved in the meeting via videolink, pumping €40m of fresh capital into the club.

A statement from Bologna explains they did raise funds with profits from the sale of players at €15.2m, including the moves of Takehiro Tomiyasu to Arsenal and Andreas Skov Olsen to Club Brugge.

The sale of players such as Mattias Svanberg, Arthur Theate and Aaron Hickey will only be included in the financial statement for the 2022-23 campaign.
