Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Viviano for some time and were said last week to be stepping up their interest in the Italian international 'keeper, who is co-owned by Inter and Palermo and spent last season at the latter.

However Tuttomercatoweb claim that the Gunners now face competition for the 26-year-old's signature from arch rivals Tottenham. The White Hart Lane club appointed Head Coach Andre Villas Boas earlier this week.

Reportedly one of AVB's top priorities is thought to be sourcing a net-minder who is younger than the 41-year-old Brad Friedel and more reliable than the notoriously error prone Heurelho Gomes.
