Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has reassured the injured Giuseppe Rossi that he is still part of his Euro 2012 plans.

The Villarreal striker could be sidelined for up to six months after he underwent knee surgery last night.

"It's bad news for him and us, but we'll wait for him," the Azzurri tactician noted. "I tried ringing him, but I kept getting his answer machine.

"He just has to concentrate on recovering from the injury with serenity and tranquillity. We are waiting for him to return to action."

Rossi has been a regular in the plans of Prandelli since the tactician replaced Marcello Lippi after the 2010 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Rossi has responded to all the messages he has received over the last 24 hours. "Surgery went well," he stated. "Thank you all for your support."
