Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has revealed that he was contacted by Juventus in the summer of 2004.

The Old Lady were looking for a new tactician at the time after Marcello Lippi left to take charge of the national side.

“It’s true, there was contact in the past,” the 55-year-old told Libero on Friday. “I talked to [then director general] Luciano Moggi at the end of my spell at Parma.

“However, they decided to take a different route and they signed a certain Fabio Capello instead…”

Prandelli actually replaced the latter at Roma, but he chose to resign almost instantly in order to look after his seriously ill wife.

Capello spent two years with the Old Lady where he won the Scudetto twice. However, those titles were taken away after the Calciopoli verdicts.

The now Russian national boss left for Real Madrid after the Bianconeri were demoted to Serie B.
