Former Italy and Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli credits Thiago Motta for Joshua Zirkzee’s growth and believes the Rossoblu ‘can only improve.’

Bologna are the big surprise of Serie A this season as they sit fourth in the table and recently beat José Mourinho’s Roma 2-0. They also eliminated table leaders Inter from the Coppa Italia Round of 16 earlier this week.

Motta is in his second season at the club and is emerging as one of the most exciting coaches in the league.

“He has leadership and charisma, but I think he has great ideas too. Aside from the organisation, he has brought many concepts and principles which are immediately visible,” Prandelli told Repubblica.

The former Azzurri tactician coached Thiago Motta with La Nazionale and believes his Bologna side will achieve great things this term.

“They must work and daily growth and details that must be improved, but the playing style is there,” said Prandelli.

“They should not set limits for themselves because this adventure isn’t over. This team can only improve.”

Zirkzee is probably the most interesting Bologa player and Prandelli believes much of the credit for the striker’s development goes to Motta.

“I was sure Thiago would not limit him, trying to amplify his play,” noted Prandelli.

“We should never forget that games are won thanks to the player’s technique.”
