Cesare Prandelli insists Italy may change a few players against Ireland, “but certainly not the system,” as qualification hangs in the balance.

The Azzurri’s 1-1 draw with Croatia today means they have only two points from as many games in Group C, trailing Spain and the Croats on four.

“Today Daniele De Rossi had different requirements to the last match against Spain. He also gave the team a big hand in creating the moves,” said the Coach.

“As for the strikers, we chose to play with pacey players right from the qualifiers. The problem is not the lack of stature, but attacking the defensive line of our opponents.”

Now Italy must beat the Republic of Ireland in the final match, but even that might not be enough to see them through if there’s a 2-2 draw between Spain and Croatia.

“I don’t know if I will change some things, as it depends on the fitness levels.

“Tomorrow we will evaluate everyone’s condition and if needs be I will make changes, but only in terms of personnel and not the system.”
