Cristian Ledesma’s agent said Cesare Prandelli was “shameful” for leaving the Lazio midfielder out of the Italy squad.

Born and raised in Argentina, Ledesma opted to play for the Azzurri in 2010, but that appearance against Romania remains his one and only cap.

“This is a blight on his career that Cristian still cannot explain,” slammed representative Vincenzo D’Ippolito on Radio Manà Manà.

“When Diego Maradona was Coach of Argentina, he had decided to call Ledesma, but Italy seemed more determined and quicker to select him for a friendly against Romania.

“He responded with enthusiasm to the Azzurri call, seeing as he and his family feel Italian now. In that game there were also incidents of racism aimed against the Oriundi, so as a response Prandelli should’ve called him back at least once.

“On the contrary, the Italy Coach inexplicably slammed the door on Ledesma definitively, without leaving any hope for a future in the Nazionale. Prandelli’s behaviour was disgraceful and shameful.”

Ledesma is now 31 and D’Ippolito assured he is absolutely committed to Lazio, even if they fail to qualify for the Europa League.

“Ledesma feels like a Laziale, he has a contract until 2015 and wants to continue this adventure with the Biancocelesti. When the moment comes we’ll talk to the club, but there should be no problems reaching an agreement.

“Ledesma is one of the best central midfielders in Serie A after Andrea Pirlo, has several admirers abroad and at 31 still has a lot to give. He’s 99.9 per cent likely to stay with Lazio for life.”
