The Giallorossi went top of Serie A this weekend with a win over Fiorentina at Artemio Franchi, and the former Italy CT sees them as Scudetto favourites.

“Roma had a very brave performance in the first half, and a very shrewd one once they found themselves ahead,” Prandelli told Calciomercato.

“They confirmed the impression I’ve had in recent weeks – in terms of the depth of their squad, and the quality of their players, they’re best placed to win this League.

“They still have problems in terms of their defensive balance, as also seen in the latest Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, but I think that’s also down to the qualities of the players they use in defence and midfield, all with a clear offensive mentality.”

Paulo Dybala made a scoring return to the starting line-up for Juventus, but Prandelli does not understand the controversy surrounding his recent exclusion.

“Considering the amount Juventus invested in him [€32m], he’s certainly one of the most important players in Serie A, and he’s shown he has the qualities to become great.

“Looking at the numbers, I don’t understand the criticism of Allegri about using him, since he’s the striker who has played the most and the Coach has to manage six really top-class players in attack.

“It reminds me in some ways of the situation I went through in Florence when [Stevan] Jovetic arrived.

“He was a lad with huge potential, who had people like [Alberto] Gilardino, [Adrian] Mutu and [Dani] Osvaldo ahead of him, but he was able to establish himself with great performances, because that’s how you establish hierarchies on the pitch.”
