The CT is reported by the Corriere dello Sport today as in talks with the Italian Football Federation over organising a two-day training camp for national team talent both current and future that has so far not been greatly involved with La Nazionale.
Seen to have already had FIGC President Giancarlo Abete’s approval, the camp is believed likely to involve younger players like Simone Scuffet, Francesco Bardi, Mattia Perin, Matteo Darmian, Manolo Gabbiadini, Ciro Immobile, Domenico Berardi and Fabio Borini, as well as older but equally inexperienced at international level players like Gabriel Paletta.
Prandelli’s initiative is seen as a plan to assess potential outside candidates to make the Italy squad for this summer’s World Cup, or at least build up a list of potential last-minute replacements, should any of the first 23 selected pull out injured.
It is also believed to be with an idea to providing the national team with a strong nucleus of players to work with after the World Cup, with or without Prandelli in charge.
Initial suggestions are that the training camp will be held in Rome across Monday March 10 and Tuesday March 11.
Prandelli, who will be in talks with Abete over his future with the Azzurri during this same period, is set to call in 33-35 players in April for medical tests at the FIGC’s facilities at Coverciano. From that group a 23-man squad for Brazil will be drawn.
Prandelli and Abete will tomorrow fly out to Nice to attend the draw for the European Qualifiers for Euro 2016, where Italy are included amongst the top seeds.
