Incoming Valencia Coach Cesare Prandelli notes “mine is a Spanish game” but can’t confirm he has the job.

The former Italy Coach is expected to be appointed as Paco Ayesteran’s successor in the coming days, and will fly to Singapore to meet with Peter Lim.

“I’ve always been told that mine is a Spanish game, but now we’ll see,” Prandelli told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It strikes me as a serious project, but for now I can’t say any more.”

Prandelli had been discussing the book ‘Buchi nella sabbia’ by Marco Malvadi, and was asked if its themes of anarchy are the opposite of being a football Coach.

“Not necessarily, at times you can be anarchist too. Let me give you an example: at Parma, we were away at Piacenza and [Adrian] Mutu receives the ball with his back to goal.

“I said to him: ‘pass it’. Instead he holds it, turns his opponent, dribbles toward the goal, beats two opponents and scores. What can you say? I ran on the pitch and hugged him!

“There are some though who prefer to have crazy heads so they don’t really have to apply themselves to the task and risk failure.

“Like Mario Balotelli and Antonio Cassano? Their careers of ups and downs proves it. I’m not surprised by how they find themselves now.”

Cassano was criticised for making homophobic comments before Euro 2012, as a champion of gay rights surely the then-CT was appalled?

“Antonio has no filters, but you journalists were worse – you laughed,” Prandelli scolded.

“No-one told him ‘how dare you say these things?’. Instead they were accomplices. That said, our football isn’t ready to talk about this issue.

“I did, with [Matteo] Renzi and I was attacked hard.”
