“Milan are a team who consolidated their identity and playing style in recent months, but we are ready to have our say,” noted Prandelli in his press conference.

The coach said he felt ‘tired’ after the win over Benevento, so has he shaken that off now?

“I had never felt such a strong sense of belonging in my career. I was just tired because my every decision feels like it holds a lot of weight, but I have to make it a positive weight.”

Dusan Vlahovic scored a hat-trick in that match and is now attracting interest from tomorrow’s opponents Milan.

“This is the most delicate moment of Dusan’s career, because people expect things from him now. He has to keep it simple and focus on the basics. He’s certainly motivated, I practically have to push him off the pitch, as he would like to stay there for hours. I think it’s the kind of pressure he can deal with.”

Milan are fatigued after their Europa League elimination to Manchester United on Thursday.

“They will certainly be angry and fired up. I have great respect for the squad and their coach. If they are disappointed, then so are we with the way our season is evolving. I hope to stay in the game until the final whistle.

“We need to repeat the intensity and organisation shown against Benevento. We’ll have to suffer tomorrow, but we must be organised and not concede avoidable counter-attacks.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s career speaks for itself. I think he is a really unique example of a player who arrived with the mentality to completely transform a team around him. He did that and it means he is a leader.”

Cristiano Biraghi recovered to resume training yesterday, while Sofyan Amrabat has a back issue and is in doubt.

“I came in mid-season, so I had to understand the characteristics of the players and try to make the most of them. I am trying to do that and in certain moments the team also plays good football, but it has to be suited to the players that I have.”
