Cesare Prandelli blasted his Valencia players ahead of their game at the weekend and warned “those who aren’t happy to suffer for this shirt can leave”.

With Valencia just a place above La Liga’s bottom three prior to facing Real Sociedad on Saturday, Prandelli grabbed his training top – in a reference to his players not fighting enough for Los Che’s jersey – and refused to accept questions from reporters, before leaving the Press room visibly angry.

“I’m very angry and disappointed at the moment,” barracked the former Italy CT.

“For two months, I’ve worked very hard, with pride, desire and a will to improve the team. I want to see the players suffer for this shirt.

“Before speaking about the transfer market, I want to see my players wanting to suffer and fighting for the shirt and those who really want to stay here to do so.

“Whoever doesn’t have personality or character can leave. Those who aren’t happy can leave. It’s not a tactical problem, it’s one of personality.

“Many of these players have been here for two years, and now is the time for them to show that they want to stay.”
