Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade says that he ‘wants to keep’ Joaquin at the club amid interest from Real Betis.

La Viola have reportedly set a €5m asking price for the 34-year-old, which the Spanish club aren’t willing to meet.

However, Prade told Fiorentina’s official website that he had no intention of selling the Spaniard.

“Joaquin? We were very clear with him, there is no iron fist but we are firm in our decisions,” he explained.

“We told the guy that we want to keep him because he’s an important player and is also a great man who is a big part of the group – we all love him and we are convinced that this is an added value.”

La Viola beat Milan 2-0 in their opening match of the season at the Artemio Franchi last night, and Prade was delighted by the performance.

"It was a match of the highest level and I congratulate the whole team,” he said.

“We started very well with a strong approach, typical of European teams.

“Skepticism of fans? We’ve never experienced it, we feel the strong cohesion between us and the city and that was seen with the 35,000 who were at the Franchi: together we have won a great victory.”
