Nicola Pozzi explains why he completed his transfer to Siena and how he’ll feel facing former Sampdoria teammates on Sunday.
The striker made the surprise move on Friday to the Tuscans and by a strange twist of fate will make his debut against Samp.
“I thought it was fair to write down what I felt inside,” said Pozzi in an open letter on the Blucerchiati website.
“After a confrontation with the club, seeing the explosion on to the scene of Maurito (Icardi) and the return of Maxi Lopez, it became clear I would probably be on the sidelines of the squad in the second half of the season.
“We therefore decided together that the best solution was to go somewhere I could play more consistently.
“I will begin again from Siena with humility for a great challenge. I cannot hide that I never thought I’d leave so many people that I cared about, including the fans who showed me great affection, after so many years in which I turned down offers.
“I am equally happy to have taken part in the Champions League with Sampdoria, proud to have gone into Serie B with heads held high and to have stayed in Serie B to bring the club home. You are and always will be in my heart.”
