With Antonio Conte terminating his contract by mutual consent, Inter are looking at Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi and Juventus target Max Allegri.

The coach walked away just three days after lifting the Serie A trophy, as he wanted more investment in the squad, whereas President Steven Zhang warned they needed to raise at least €70m from transfers and cut wages by 20 per cent.

This made Conte’s project untenable and they agreed a termination by mutual consent, which is believed to have cost the club €7m in a golden handshake deal.

The rush is now on to find a replacement and Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio has outlined the options.

Simone Inzaghi is the absolute favourite, especially as he is meeting with Lazio President Claudio Lotito and director Igli Tare tonight to discuss his contract situation.

Another candidate is Max Allegri, who is a free agent two years after his Juventus dismissal.

He had seemed on the verge of a return to Juve, especially after director Fabio Paratici left the Bianconeri, as his rapport with Allegri was tense.

Inter would be an intriguing challenge for Allegri, who followed Conte at Juventus and went on to win five consecutive Serie A titles with director Beppe Marotta.
