Roma are increasingly concerned about the future of their coach, because the Portuguese Federation are stepping up their pursuit of Jose Mourinho.

The Special One has emerged as their first choice to replace Fernando Santos, who terminated his contract by mutual consent after losing the World Cup quarter-final against Morocco.

Mourinho is under contract with Roma until June 2024 and has always assured he intends to see out the entire deal, despite the links that were had with Premier League clubs.

However, when it comes to the opportunity to lead his country, it might be enough to make him reconsider.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese Federation are increasing the pressure on Mou to make a decision as soon as possible.

They are prepared to leave him with Roma until the end of this season, appointing current Portugal Under-21 boss Rui Jorge as caretaker manager until July.

Mou joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2021 and immediately took them to their first ever UEFA trophy, lifting the Conference League.

Traditionally, he has never stayed at one club for that long, managing three years at Chelsea and Real Madrid.
