Milan haven’t yet registered the contract of 17-year-old striker Matija Popovic, so Manchester City are reportedly ready to hijack the Rossoneri’s bid.

Multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, reported earlier in December that the Rossoneri had reached an agreement to sign Popovic on a free transfer.

Popvic was expected to join the Serie A giants in January after signing a professional contract with Milan.

However, Italian transfer expert Matteo Moretto claims the Rossoneri are unsure about using the last slot for non-EU players this season to welcome the 17-year-old so his signature has been put on hold.

Fabrizio Romano adds Manchester City have already opened talks with Popovic’s agents, and that the club’s scouts watched the player in action in Belgrade last weekend.

Romano claims Milan have been in talks with Popovic’s entourage since October.

Popovic scored 21 goals in 25 appearances in the Kadetska Liga, Serbia’s youth division, last season and his contract with Partizan runs out on December 31, 2023.
