AEK Athens have decided against exercising their €6m option to buy Roma striker Ezequiel Ponce.
The 22-year-old joined the Greek side last summer on a season-long loan with a €6m option to buy.
Despite scoring 21 goals in 43 games, however, AEK have elected not to make his stay in Athens a permanent one.
“After a meeting at the weekend between the directors of the Athenian team and the player’s agent-father, the club have made the decision not to exercise their option to buy,” read an official statement.

Ponce joined Roma from Newell’s Old Boys in 2015 but has yet to play a single match for the capital club.
Instead he has been moved around on loan, spending time in La Liga with Granada and with Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
