Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis smoothed things over the club’s ultras in a meeting on Saturday, which was something pushed for by various important politicians.

The film producer and club president met with a number of Partenopei ultras to try and reach peace after rising tensions between the two parties based on ticket prices, increased security measures at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and the planning of the Scudetto celebrations in the city.

The Napoli ultras were so furious at the situation that they carried out a silent protest during the team’s 4-0 loss to Milan last weekend, and a judge in the city assigned De Laurentiis police protection as a precautionary measure.

Corriere della Sera details how a number of important political figures wanted the two parties to make peace and helped organise the meeting.

Naples mayor Gaetano Manfredi, Prefect of Naples Claudio Palomba and police commissioner Alessandro Giuliano helped De Laurentiis plan the peace summit with the Napoli ultras. The group were joined by Matteo Piantedosi, the Minister of the Interior, who also helped broker an agreement between the parties.

The peace summit saw De Laurentiis and the Napoli ultras agree to a number of compromises. The fans agreed to respect the rules regarding banners and drums at the stadium, whilst the club president opened up to the idea of removing the need for a ‘membership card’ to purchase home tickets.

The Napoli president also said he was open to discussing the organisation of away matches with the Napoli ultras and that they’d be included in the plans for the Scudetto celebrations.
