Matteo Politano reveals what happened during the half-time break to completely transform Napoli from 2-0 down to hold Milan 2-2. ‘It was embarrassing.’

The game seemed to be done for when Olivier Giroud found the net with two headers from Christian Pulisic and Davide Calabria crosses.

However, Politano’s magical solo effort and the Giacomo Raspadori free kick completed the comeback for a draw.

“We are pleased with the reaction we had, the second half was perfect after an ugly first half where we allowed Milan too much,” Politano told DAZN.

“It’s also a pity about the last move, because we could’ve won it at the end.”

Something must’ve happened during the half-time break to completely transform the Napoli approach, apart from coach Rudi Garcia making three changes to introduce Giovanni Simeone, Leo Ostigard and Mathias Olivera.

“We looked each other in the eyes, realised we absolutely could not continue like that, as it was an embarrassing performance. We had to turn things around and give our all for the fans.”

Politano had not scored a goal at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona since February 2022 against Barcelona in the Champions League.

“Finally, I am back to scoring here, lately I had only got goals away from home. Now we must continue along this path and climb back up the standings.”
