Napoli reveal Matteo Politano missed a training session on Wednesday morning due to a strain.
The Partenopei are preparing for Sunday’s away game at Torino, but it remains to be seen if Politano will be available.
The Italy winger trained separately from the rest of the team on Wednesday due to a strain, the defending Serie A champions said in an official statement.
“The players reported to the Konami Training Centre on Wednesday morning for training ahead of the first game of 2024, away to Torino on Sunday, 7 January at 15:00 CET in Serie A Week 19,” the statement reads.
“The players kicked off with strength work in the gym.
“This was followed by rondos on pitch two along with fitness work with the help of low obstacles and technical and tactical drills.
“There was a mini tournament on pitch three to finish off in which four teams of five players competed.
“Matteo Politano trained individually on the pitch due to a strain.”
Napoli will be forced to do without Alex Meret for at least one month and won’t rely on star striker Victor Osimhen in January as the Nigerian forward is currently on international duty for the AFCON.
