Matteo Politano hopes to secure a spot in Italy’s Euro 2020 squad but still ‘can’t talk’ about Napoli–Verona.
The Partenopei winger scored a brace in the Azzurri’s 7-0 win over San Marino.
“It was important, we played a great game and I am really happy for the goals,” the winger told Rai Sport.
“I hope I will secure a spot in the team, but I don’t know. I’ve been trying to convince Mancini for one year, I hope I can make it. This team can go all the way through at the Euros.”
Mancini has selected a preliminary 33-man squad, but he will name the final 26-man team that will play the competition on Tuesday.
“We are a strong team, a mix of young and experienced players. Maybe we are not scoring many goals, but we play really good football,” Politano said.
When asked about the last Serie A game between Napoli and Fiorentina, the 27-year-old replied: “You put me in trouble with this question, I still can’t answer because Napoli’s media silence is not over yet.”
