Bologna winger Riccardo Orsolini has been called up by Luciano Spalletti to replace the injured Matteo Politano, who has pulled out of the Azzurri squad alongside Gianluca Mancini.

FIGC have confirmed that Orsolini is already travelling to Milanello, where the Azzurri will be preparing for Tuesday’s key EURO 2024 qualifying fixture against Ukraine.

The Bologna winger replaces Napoli‘s Politano who was subbed off during the halftime break of a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia on Saturday. Politano has left Milanello alongside Roma defender Mancini who also suffered a slight injury against North Macedonia.

Orsolini, 26, has two goals in two games with the Azzurri but played his last match with Italy in November 2020 against Estonia.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Orsolini may not be the only new face against Ukraine on Tuesday as Spalletti is pondering more changes.

There are reports of a potential call-up for Domenico Berardi and/or Gianluca Scamacca given that Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini had pulled out of the squad earlier this week and have not been replaced yet.
