Mario Giuffredi, the agent of Matteo Politano, provided an update on the contract renewal talks involving his client and Napoli.

The 30-year-old Italian winger featured often under Luciano Spalletti in the Partenopei’s Scudetto winning season, scoring four goals and providing four assists across 37 total appearances, seeing 1626 minutes of action.

After taking on the Italy job, Spalletti decided to start Politano in his first game in charge against North Macedonia, taking off the 30-year-old at half-time.

Speaking to TMW, Giuffredi discussed Politano’s contract situation at Napoli and the desire for a new deal. The winger’s current contract expires in June 2025.

“We talked but there were no conditions to take the talks forward. The call-up to the national team arrived, he played the first games in an important way. He would like to tie himself to Napoli for life like Di Lorenzo because he feels great at the club and in the city.

“The guy is focused on having a great year between the league, Champions League and national team. When the president wants to, he will always find our availability.”

Politano initially joined Napoli from Inter on loan in January 2020, making a permanent move 18 months later.

Since his arrival, he’s made 149 appearances across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and providing 19 assists. He was part of the squad that’s won a Coppa Italia and a Scudetto.
